A postcard showing Apple Island on Orchard Lake, published by The Durand Studio in Durand, Michigan. The text on the back of the postcard reads: "Orchard Lake, showing Apple Island, the Capital of the Ottawa Tribe led by Chief Pontiac. From here in 1763 Pontiac planned hist great conspiracy overwhelming eight frontier forst. He was defeated at Detroit. Killed in 1768, his body was returned to Apple Island for burial." There is no evidence suggesting that Chief Pontiac is buried on Apple Island. |
