A menu for Wilkins Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge located at Orchard Lake Road and Pontiac Trail in Orchard Lake, Michigan, c. 1950s. Bound by red leather. Menu features items like Wilkins' Chicken in the Basket for $2.45, Shrimp Salad Bowl for $2.45, and Baby Milk Fed Spare Ribs for $4.15. Inside the menu were two matchbooks, featuring an illustration of Wilkins Restaurant with the tagline "One of Michigan's Better Restaurants." Matchbooks were made by Match Corp. of America in Chicago, Illinois and Universal Match Corp. in Detroit, Michigan. The first restaurant-bar at the corner of Orchard Lake Road and Pontiac Trail (also known as Wilkins Corner) opened in 1926. After prohibition, a liquor license was obtained in 1933. In 1970, Fred Wilkins sold Wilkins Restaurant to Bruce Cameron, who renamed it The Meating Place. |
